Hello I’m Emily Ford! I grew up in the suburbs of the Twin Cities, went to Gustavus Adolphus College, and promptly moved to Duluth, Minnesota after finishing my geology degree. Moving to Duluth inspired me to get out and backpack (especially after getting my first pup, Zulu). I am now the head gardener of the historic house museum, Glensheen. Since I am laid off for three months in the winter, I spend my time in the snow. In the winter of 2020-2021, I completed the 1200 mile National Scenic Ice Age Trail with my second dog, Diggins. I continue to get out in the winter hoping to break down barriers for other people of color in the outdoors.

Being in solitude in nature. Grounding oneself in order to be present.
I'm not sure if I can pick one! Do I choose the frigid 1200 mile hike across Wisconsin? The beautiful and silent back country dogsled in the Boundary Waters? Or being rained on for 4 days straight on a remote trail between Minnesota and Ontario with only my dog and myself? Lots of adventures!
My two dogs, Zulu and Diggins. And anyone that doesn't mind going off the beaten path
