Kalzhofen near Oberstaufen which is the touristic centre of the Nature park Nagelfluhkette, the Hochgrat, with 1 834 meters, is the highest peak and a common starting point for alpine tours with astonishing views. Besides the changing landscape, trekkers especially appreciate the local homemade milk and cheese specialities from the Sennalpen

The morning of day 1 starts with a bit of a climb giving you a headstart to spectacular views.

The climb up towards viewpoint Alpseeblick (1070) pays off. Here you can see ahead where the route will take you the next days and already spot the first night camp by the end of the lake.

The oldest town in Oberallgäu brings exciting history and traditions together with a unique nature. Outstandingly situated in the Naturepark Nagelfluhkette, between the largest natural lake in Allgäu, the Großen Alpsee and the historical city centre, Immenstadt is an attractive goal. Enjoy ancient forests, rare animals and colourful mountain flowers in the scenic surroundings.

The climb up to Kemptener Naturfreundehaus is tough and partly steep. You pass through the village then further across fields and the forest. Take your time and pace yourself. Don't forget to enjoy the views.

After the climb, the trail levels out along the ridge the view varies between left and right, offering many nice spots for breaks.

The last section for the day is mainly downhill, overlooking the Hochgrat ridge that is the highest in the area. When you reach the valley and the night camp, you have hiked 1030 meters uphill and 870 meters downhill. Now you will be able to fill up water, find a good spot for your tent and enjoy a good night's sleep with your fellow trekkers.

Look around the corner for the first checkpoint of the day, here the trail makes a 90 degrees turn for a new view.
