A well-fitted backpack, appropriate clothing for varying temperatures, and a good night’s sleep in your tent will help you enjoy every step of the journey. Our gear guide ensures you make the most of your trek and have a great experience on the trail.
PACKING LIST
To get the most out of Fjällräven Classic Sweden—and to stay safe in the wilderness—you need the right clothing and equipment. Some items are mandatory, ensuring that you are prepared for all conditions. Carefully review the list to check what you already have and what you may need to acquire. If you want even more packing inspiration, and also add weight into the equation, you can read this article where Calle, our Senior Global Event Manager, shares more insights. Link here

HEALTH & SAFETY
Fjällräven Classic Sweden takes place in the wilderness. There are no roads, limited mobile coverage, and the weather can change rapidly. However, you are not alone.
Participation is at your own risk. You are responsible for having adequate insurance that covers accidents, injuries, or other unforeseen incidents.
EU/EEA/Swiss citizens should bring their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to avoid unexpected medical costs.
Non-EU/EEA participants must ensure that they have personal health insurance covering emergency medical care and transportation.
Fjällräven Classic does not cover costs related to accidents, injuries, or evacuations, such as helicopter transport or medical treatment.
All checkpoints are staffed with health professionals who can assist with minor medical issues. If you experience serious health problems, notify the event staff at the nearest checkpoint.
In case of severe injury or illness, helicopter evacuation is possible, but may be delayed due to weather conditions or availability. Fjällräven Classic reserves the right to charge for non-emergency evacuations according to the current price list.
Only medical emergencies are documented for insurance purposes. Other examinations, medical certificates, or insurance claims must be handled by your regular healthcare provider. Medical certificates are only issued upon direct contact with a doctor.
Fjällräven does not track participants' locations. If you need assistance, it is your responsibility to contact us or seek help on your own. There is no organized search-and-rescue effort for those who do not reach the finish line.
Fjällräven follows global and local safety regulations. If conditions pose a risk to participants, volunteers, or staff, the event will not take place. We will comply with all governmental safety guidelines and do our utmost to provide a safe and enjoyable experience in Lapland.

RULES
Fjällräven Classic is about learning to enjoy nature responsibly. The mandatory equipment and the few rules in place are designed to ensure your safety and minimize our impact on the environment.
Camping During Fjällräven Classic Sweden
During Fjällräven Classic Sweden, the Right of Public Access (Allemansrätten) allows camping almost anywhere, as long as nature, wildlife, and fellow hikers are respected. You will sleep in your own tent or in the tent your group carries.
However, after Checkpoint Kieron, you will enter Abisko National Park, where camping is strictly prohibited except at Nissunjåkk, 5 km from the finish. Camping is also allowed near Abiskojaure cabins, but the camp sites are limited and needs a confirmation from Checkpoint Kieron.
For a safe and sustainable camping experience:
- Choose flat, durable surfaces, such as gravel, dry grass, rocks, or designated campsites.
- Camp near water sources, but avoid pitching your tent too close to streams and lakes.
- Be considerate of other hikers by keeping a respectful distance.
- Leave no trace—restore the site before leaving and pack out all waste.
- Use the designated toilet tents at checkpoints whenever possible.
When using the Swedish Tourist Association
(STF) cabins, you are permitted to:
- Purchase supplies from the cabin shops.
- Dine at the Kebnekaise restaurant.
- In case of life-threatening emergencies, contact STF staff if you are closer to a STF mountain cabin than a Fjällräven Classic checkpoint.
However, you are NOT permitted to:
- Use the toilets located by the STF mountain cabins.
- Use any indoor facilities within the STF mountain cabins.
- Stay in the cabins for shelter.
- Wait inside the cabins for helicopter transport (for evacuation). Unless medically motivated.
Further:
- In all cases of emergencies, seek shelter (set up your tent), get energy, and keep warm. Connect with Fjällräven Classic staff for consultation.
- Only use the toilets at Fjällräven Classic checkpoints (STF toilets are not sizeable enough to accommodate Fjällräven Classic).
- All other use of STF mountain cabins is for members of STF or guests who have paid a fee.
Leave No Trace
Nature is important to us, and we rely on participants to help keep it clean. Every participant receives a reusable trash bag to collect and carry out all waste.
At the finish line, your trash bag is weighed. If it contains at least 600 grams, you have a chance to win a Fjällräven prize. However, the real reward is preserving nature together.
Participants who violate littering rules will be disqualified and banned from future Fjällräven events. Littering is also a criminal offense under Swedish environmental law and will be reported to the police.
If you cannot reach a hygiene tent:
- Dig a small hole, do your business, and cover it with soil.
- Bury or carry out used toilet paper.
- In Abisko National Park, burying waste is forbidden—cover it with rocks and pack out the paper.
- Never relieve yourself near water sources.
- Wash your hands carefully with an environmentally certified soap.
- Dishwashing and food scraps - Food scraps and dirty water from dishwashing should be buried or hidden under a large stone. Remember to dispose of this some distance away from waterways and only use environmentally certified dishwashing detergent.
