DURING THE TREK
The Route and UK Conditions
Fjällräven Classic UK is not a total wilderness hike like Fjällräven Classic Sweden but it does take place in the mountains. The ground is steep and rocky in many places, there is limited mobile coverage and the weather can change rapidly. Having ‘four seasons in one day’ is fairly common in the Lake District. September can bring anything from warm sunshine to cold, wet and windy weather. Temperatures can range from 2 degrees at night to 18 degrees on a good day. The wind can make a big difference in lowering your temperature too. So please come prepared with appropriate gear and make sure you preempt the weather rather than get caught out in it.

Both day one and two of the trek involves a steep ascent and descent at some point to take you over into the next valley. The passes are approx. 450m at their highest point and the paths can be challenging – steep and rocky. Day three starts with a hill but is a slightly lower day, however, the distance is longer. There is also a cheeky short steep ascent just before the end, so save a little energy for that!
Checkpoints
For your safety and enjoyment, there will be a checkpoint on the trail each day of the trek as well as at the start, finish and each campsite. You must get your trekking passport stamped at every checkpoint. They are staffed by our brilliant medics and volunteer team who are there to support you and, if you are lucky, provide treats! They will stay until all participants have passed and checked in

Toilets
There will be toilets at the start and the end of each day but not on the trail. Should you need to defecate whilst you are on the trail you can use the specifically designed toilet bag which you’ll receive at the start of the event.

Alternatively, you can dig a cat hole 6-9” deep but this must be at least 100m away from any water source. You will need to carry out or burn your toilet paper. We recommend you go before you leave each morning! Proper disposal of human waste is important to avoid pollution of water sources, avoid the negative implications of someone else finding it and minimize the possibility of spreading disease.
Camping
The campsites are very simple and have drinking water and toilets. Please don’t camp anywhere other than the designated sites. Wild camping is not permitted. We are working with local landowners and farmers and have agreed that campsites are pre-arranged.

Extra freeze-dried meals will be available at the Wasdale campsite.
Water
There will be tap water available at the base camp, all campsites and at the start of the trek. If you refill your water on the trail you will need to filter it or use another appropriate method of sterilizing.

Trash
At Fjällräven, we follow Leave No Trace principles at all our events because we want to keep the area pristine. We will provide you with a trash bag to collect your rubbish, or any that you find, during the trek. All rubbish must be taken out in these bags or deposited in bins provided by our team.

Please do not contaminate any water sources with cleaning or bathing products.
Medical problems
If you or anyone else experiences illness or injury during the trek there are trained medical staff at each checkpoint and the night camps. If an issue arises and you cannot continue walking you can stay put on the trail where you are. Inform other hikers and they will notify event staff at the next checkpoint. Assistance will be available, but response time may vary. It is vital to keep warm and dry using your equipment whilst you wait.

Retiring from the hike
You may withdraw from Fjällräven Classic UK at any time. Our volunteers can help you if you need to arrange transport but you must inform us if you leave the hike. You can do this either at the nearest checkpoint or by messaging the phone number found in your Trekking Passport.

AT THE FINISH LINE
You will be cheered over the finish line on the lawn at Muncaster Castle. Once you have got your final stamp and collected your badges and medal you can enjoy hanging out at the Trekker’s Inn. Here you can share stories with your fellow trekkers over food and drinks. You might also enjoy some axe throwing and archery in the castles’ Weapons Hall. The fun really gets going in the evening when we will have music and dancing.
At base camp there will be showers available to wash off after your trek. The castle and grounds will be open as well as the café and shop.
