Prepare
Hiking is always more enjoyable when you are well-prepared. We have put together a series of hiking guides online to help you get the information, advice, and tips you need for a great multi-day trekking experience. A well-fitted backpack, appropriate clothing for varying temperatures, and a good night’s sleep in your tent will help you enjoy every step of the journey and help keep you safe.
Bringing the required equipment also ensures that you can handle an unexpected situation. With the right gear, you will be able to manage until help arrives.

Health and Safety
Fjällräven Classic UK is an outdoor event and participation is at your own risk.
Medical problems
It’s good to know that if you or anyone else experiences illness or injury during the trek you are not alone. Aside from having other trekkers around to help, there are trained medical staff at each checkpoint and the night camps.
If an issue arises and you cannot continue walking you can stay put on the trail where you are. Inform other hikers and they will notify event staff at the next checkpoint. Assistance will be available, but response time may vary. It is vital to keep warm and dry using your equipment whilst you wait.
If you have an emergency situation you must call 999, ask for mountain rescue and alert others to the situation. Ensure someone lets our team know what is happening by using the phone number on the back of the passport. Once again, use your equipment to keep warm and dry whilst you wait.
The Fjällräven Classic organisation does not compensate your costs in case of an accident, personal injury or other damage, for example helicopter transportation or medical care. You are responsible for having adequate insurance protection covering any accidents, personal injury or other damages.
EU/EEA/Swiss members should be able to show their citizenship and are recommended to carry their European Health Insurance Card to avoid costs for any emergency medical care or transportation.
Non EU/EEA members are solely responsible for having adequate health insurance covering emergency medical care and transportation.
For insurance purposes, please note that only cases of medical emergency are documented. Other examinations, certificates and insurance matters, ought to be handled by your regular medical service at home.
Fjällräven and its partners are not responsible for your whereabouts, so if you need assistance, it’s up to you to contact us or seek your own help.
Ticks
Ticks can be a problem in the Lake District National Park. Although small, ticks can carry pathogenic bacteria. If left undetected, this can lead to diseases that can be dangerous (Lymes disease or borreliosis). So please check yourself – and your trekking partner – for ticks on a daily basis during Fjällräven Classic UK. Ticks like warmer, sweatier areas of the body, such as the elbow hollows, armpits, groin and back of the knees. If you see a tick, you should remove it with fine-tipped tweezers and wash the area with warm soapy water.
Rules
The Fjällräven Classic is about enjoying nature responsibly. The mandatory equipment and the few rules in place are designed to ensure your safety and minimize our impact on the environment.
#1 NO LITTERING
You must not litter or leave trash along the trail, at the checkpoints or on any of the campsites.
We always aim to leave nature in better shape than when we arrived and encourage all our participants to pick up all trash – even trash that might not be theirs.
#2 NO WILD CAMPING
All trekkers must camp in the designated campsites on the route - wild camping is not permitted.
We are working with local landowners and farmers and have agreed that campsites are pre-arranged.
#3 COLLECT ALL STAMPS
For safety reasons you must get your trekking passport stamped at every checkpoint, including the start and finish.
#4 NO FIRES
Fires are not permitted anywhere on the trek.
#5 PROTECT WATER SOURCES
Toilets are provided at each end of the day at the campsites. If you must go to the toilet whilst you are on the trail you must either use your toilet bag or dig a cat hole 6-9” deep but this must be at least 100m away from any water source. You will need to carry out or burn your toilet paper.
#6 RESPECT NATURE
Tread carefully along the trail protecting plants, wildlife and habitats.
#7 WALK IN DAYLIGHT HOURS
We ask, for safety reasons, that you walk between sun rise and sun set.
