DURING THE TREK
There are several checkpoints along the Fjällräven Classic USA route – including the start and finish – and they’re staffed until all participants have passed. You need to get your Trekking Passport stamped at each one and fill in the guest book with your checkpoint arrival time. In case of emergency, and the officials must leave the checkpoint, the stamp will be placed outside for you to stamp your Trekking Passport yourself.
You will be given a site to camp at. Information on camping spots will be provided by Fjällräven Classic staff at the checkpoints you pass along the trail.
We provide you with a trash bag to collect your non-human waste during the trek. It’s vital that you use it. You’re not allowed, under any circumstances, to drop any trash. If you do so, you will be disqualified. We want to keep the area pristine and free from trash. You can leave the trash from your trash bag at the finish, and we’ll take care of the contents.
Human waste is another matter though. You will receive a wag-bag should the need arise out on the trail. LNT principles of a cathole 6-9” deep & carrying out TP is another acceptable form of going to the bathroom. We recommend you go before you leave each morning!
In case of illness or injury during the trek, please note that there are always trained medical staff at each checkpoint and the night camps. If for some reason you are unable to proceed, you can always stay put on the trail where you are, as we have a sweeping patrol with trained medical staff following the last participants. They will be able to help you.
If you have an emergency situation, you must call 911.
RULES
We want to make sure Fjällräven Classic USA is enjoyable for everyone and that the landscape looks as good after the event as it does before. That’s why there are a few rules you must follow. If you don’t follow them, you won’t receive a medal at the finish and you may well be disqualified.
Littering
It is absolutely prohibited to litter or leave trash along the trail, at the checkpoints, and at any of the campsites. We want to leave the Colorado landscape in good shape. Instead, make use of your trash bag, which we provide at check-in. You can dispose of this at the finish.
A breach of the littering rules will result in an immediate disqualification from Fjällräven Classic USA and you’ll be prohibited from participation in any future Fjällräven events. Furthermore, littering will be reported to the police, as it’s a breach of environmental laws.
Camping
You must sleep in a tent during Fjällräven Classic USA. According to the US Forest Service, you need to camp on the designated campground. Also, please bear in mind that we shut down the checkpoints gradually. So, you can’t spend two nights camping in the same spot. You could, but then you’d miss getting your stamp and being part of FjällrävenClassic USA.
Bear Canister
Seeing as you’ll be entering bear territory, it’s essential you put all food, both opened and unopened, into the bear canister (included in the ticket price) or a bear hang at night.
Stamps
You need to get your Trekking Passport stamped at every checkpoint, including the start and finish. If you miss a stamp, you may not be able to receive your medal.
AT THE FINISH
Once you’ve made it, tired but happy and over the finish line, a shuttle will take you to Trekker’s Inn for a celebratory drink. There you’ll get your last stamp in your Trekking Passport. And it’s here you’ll also receive your Fjällräven Classic USA medal.
Whether you jump in the lake first or second, don’t miss a visit to the Trekker’s Inn. This is the place to hang out after Fjällräven Classic and share stories over cold drinks and hot food.
