Health & safety
Fjällräven Classic Chile takes place in the wilderness, with limited access roads, minimal phone reception, and rapidly changing weather conditions. Participation in the event is entirely at your own risk. It is your responsibility to ensure you have sufficient insurance coverage for any accidents, personal injuries, or other damage.
While the route generally has no difficult or dangerous passages, there are some steep sections. Be careful in foggy conditions and during or after heavy rainfall, as this may result in slippery ground. Remember to eat and drink plenty to gain enough energy and to avoid headaches.
Use good hygiene when dealing with wounds. Use plenty of clean water to rinse wounds and blisters. First aid-educated staff will be available at each night camp and at the finish, equipped with a limited supply of first aid products and medications.
In the event of an injury or illness, contact officials at a checkpoint or night camp. If you cannot proceed to the next checkpoint or night camp, remain on the trail (pitch a tent and cook if necessary) until help arrives or the Sweeper appears. In exceptional cases, such as serious injury or illness, helicopter evacuation is possible. However, medical services and/or helicopter transportation costs in case of an accident, personal injury, or other damage are not covered by the organiser and will be billed directly to the participant at customary rates.
Fjällräven and its partners are not responsible for your whereabouts. If you require assistance, it is your responsibility to contact us or seek help independently. Generally, there will be no organised search and rescue for individuals who do not reach the finish.
Fjällräven is monitoring the development both globally and in the specific areas where we host events. We will under no condition proceed with our events if we see that they could jeopardize the health or safety of our trekkers, volunteers, or staff in any way. Needless to say, we will comply with any rules or regulations issued by authorities in the areas we operate. We will do everything in our power to produce a safe event for all and welcome you to Chile.
RULES
We want to make sure that Fjällräven Classic Chile is enjoyable for everyone and that the landscape looks as good after the event as it did before. So, there are a few rules you must follow.
A breach of the rules below will result in an immediate disqualification from Fjällräven Classic Chile and you’ll be prohibited from participating in any future Fjällräven events.
Furthermore, a breach of the fire and littering rules will be reported to the police, as it’s a breach of environmental laws.
Fire
In the area, there have been several big woodfires devastating huge areas of forests during the last 50 years. You will see traces of this during the second day of the trek.
It is absolutely prohibited to make fires or use any other type of fuel than gas before, during and after the trek. You must also be very careful when using your gas stove.
Littering
It is absolutely prohibited to litter or leave trash along the trail, at the checkpoints and at any of the campsites. We want to leave the landscape in the same good shape as it was before we arrived. Make use of your trash bag, which we provide at check-in. You can dispose of this at the finish.
Wire fences and gates
During the trek, the route will pass many fences where we have built stairs to make them easier to pass through. You are only allowed to cross the fences via these stairs, and you need to be careful when passing. Only one person may pass at a time.
Some of the fences have gates that you will pass through. If a gate is open when you arrive, leave it open. If a gate is closed, close it after you. The route passes through farmland, and you will walk through areas with livestock.
Dogs
Dogs will not be allowed on the trek as we will be on private land where livestock is present. It's important to maintain the safety and well-being of both our participants and the animals.
Camping
You must sleep in a tent during Fjällräven Classic Chile. As we are on private land, you are only allowed to camp on the designated campgrounds, and you may only camp one night per campground. When leaving the campsite in the morning, make sure you leave it in the same way you found it and you must bring back all litter with you to the finish line.
Stamps
You must get your Trekking Passport stamped at every checkpoint, including at the start and finish. If you miss a stamp, you may not be able to receive your medal.
