A primary school teacher, scout leader and member of Leave No Trace Ireland, Mark is passionate about nature, living sustainably and educating others about these topics. He grows his own fruit and vegetables and sustains these activities with homemade compost. An avid trekker, Mark got the Fjällräven-event bug in 2016, when he and his wife passed by the Fjällräven Classic Sweden in Kiruna while en route to the Arctic Ocean. The positive buzz of the event, combined with the stunning Scandinavian scenery and welcoming nature of the local people convinced him that if he was smitten with the area in summer, he’d be entranced with it in winter. Committed to learning new things, his major knowledge gap for Fjällräven Polar is caring for dogs in the cold. To train, he prepared frozen food for his friend’s dog Copper. Complete with an axe to chop up the meat and a stove to melt ice for drinking water.
