Hello I’m Karrie Carnes, a Portland local guide and an avid outdoorswoman who traded in my dive fins for hiking boots when I relocated from Florida to Oregon in 2015. I’ve spent my career communicating about environmental conservation issues – a passion that extends into my personal life. I find myself equally at home marveling over mushrooms in moss-covered forests as I am hiking peaks in the Cascade range. In my free time, I lead events with the organization Women Who Explore.Store website

  1. What aspect of being in nature is most important to you?
  2. Being in nature inspires awe and wonder which can have profound positive effects on your mind and wellbeing. In nature I live in the present moment. I also often feel humbled while in nature and at peace with my existence.

  3. Tell us about your favorite adventure
  4. In July 2020 an all-women group of my friends and I submitted Mount Adams (12,281') together. It was an incredibly empowering experience to be among girlfriends who supported each other when we were tired or had self-doubt.

  5. Who do you enjoy spending the day out with?
  6. My partner Shane and our Australian Shepherd Oreo are my favorite trail buddies. I also adore spending time in the outdoors with my partner's four children and sharing my love of nature with them.

  7. Share a podcast/article/book/movie that you have enjoyed lately
