Karrie Carnes
Fjällräven Guide

Hello I’m Karrie Carnes, a Portland local guide and an avid outdoorswoman who traded in my dive fins for hiking boots when I relocated from Florida to Oregon in 2015. I’ve spent my career communicating about environmental conservation issues – a passion that extends into my personal life. I find myself equally at home marveling over mushrooms in moss-covered forests as I am hiking peaks in the Cascade range. In my free time, I lead events with the organization Women Who Explore.

Formally trained in fine arts and art education, I am a biodynamic farmer, wellness educator, artist and explorer. I believe that food is a bridge between cultures and has established gardens and food plots in over 6 countries in efforts to create food sovereign communities. I lead private and corporate wellness programming which I draw from a myriad of modalities such as yoga, somatic experiencing, personal training and meditation. When I’m not on the farm or traveling in search of food and culture you can find me at the archery range! I am ranked 1st in the state of Michigan and 12th in the United States.

Knight Campbell

Hi there I’m Knight! After graduating from the Naval Academy in 2006, I excelled in flight school, learning to pay attention to detail, manage fear, and control risk with my team. I earned the top graduate spot. I also earned my Wings of Gold and led Sailors on two deployments to the Pacific conducting theater security and counter piracy operations. Looking for a change of pace, I went back to the Naval Academy and earned my master’s degrees in leadership from UMD and the Naval War College. More importantly I had the honor of leading over 700 Midshipmen. From tackling 24-hour crucible events alongside my people to teaching advanced leadership theory, I left the tour with a burning passion for helping people reach their potential as leaders. After one more deployment on an Aircraft Carrier, I decided to pursue leadership development full time. Having a goal to climb the high point in every state- only 10 left now- I found deep satisfaction in climbing mountains. Observing the limitations of teaching leadership in a classroom, I knew outdoor activities would be a perfect place for leaders to thrive. While working on a Management PhD at George Washington University, I started teaching rock climbing, hiking, and mountain biking for REI Outdoor School. Knight then did a 30-day expedition in Alaska with NOLS to certify as a mountaineering instructor. Seeing the need for quality and hands-on leadership training, I switched gears to complete an Executive Leadership Coaching Certificate at Georgetown University. I’m passionate about combining disparate ideas to get gestalt moments, creating inspiring adventures where leaders forge community and deep growth, and spending time with my wife and daughter in the wilderness.

Hey I’m Ryan, a passionate and impassioned Culturalist who shares the human stories behind an adventure…where we have been, where we are, and where we are going, to reveal the importance of culture through the lens of adventure. I seek to connect people to their environment, share history of the environment and the surrounding culture to highlight the environment, ecosystems and the impacts we humans make to our world, past and present. When I’m not ‘sporting my adventure culturist side,’ you can find me hiking, learning & teaching, rafting the closest river, enjoying sun on the beach, trekking through forests in Southern California's surrounding mountains, camping in any location, or exploring new unseen areas with friends. My twin brother Chris and I founded and host Adventure Hydrology, our own adventure travel/ education channel and website--“A daily dose of adventure, environment & stories to make sense of our natural world.”
